What it does

SiteTrellis is an LLM chat agent for your website that runs on your own provider API keys. It answers visitors, captures leads and calls your own APIs, and you can step into any conversation yourself.

Features

  • Bring your own key, five providers. Connect keys from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, OpenRouter or DeepSeek, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Keys are encrypted at rest and shown masked once saved. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Provider fallback chain. Each agent has an ordered chain of provider, model and key. Network errors, timeouts, HTTP 429, 5xx and invalid keys move the conversation to the next step. Official source 1 ↗
  • Pasted knowledge and strict mode. Write the instructions, paste FAQs, policies and product facts, and turn on strict mode so the agent answers only from what you provided and otherwise offers a person. Official source 1 ↗
  • Custom HTTP tools. Custom HTTP tools let the agent call your own endpoints to look up an order, check stock or create a ticket, with JSON-schema parameters, encrypted secrets and SSRF protection. Built-in tools capture leads, escalate, email your team and show links. Official source 1 ↗
  • Escalation and live human takeover. Escalate when a visitor asks for a person, on keywords, after repeated misses or outside business hours, then reply from the inbox and hand the chat back to the AI. Live takeover starts on Starter. Official source 1 ↗
  • Lead capture. Collect details with a pre-chat form or the capture_lead tool, with a lead list, CSV export and email alerts; signed webhooks push leads to a CRM from Starter. Official source 1 ↗
  • Themable Shadow DOM widget. Fourteen accessible themes with dark variants and 48 design tokens; the widget is isolated in a Shadow DOM so site CSS cannot break it. White-label and custom CSS are on Pro. Official source 1 ↗
  • Analytics and assistant access. Post-chat analysis, a ranked unanswered-questions report and a per-turn debug trace; Claude and ChatGPT can connect over MCP and scripts over API keys with chosen permissions. Official source 1 ↗

Billing details

AI token costs are not included: each provider bills you directly for usage on your own key. Official source 1 ↗

A conversation is one visitor session with at least one visitor message. Paid plans have a soft cap with a 10% buffer; the Free plan pauses new chats at its cap. Official source 1 ↗

Payments run through Stripe; the privacy policy lists Stripe as used once paid plans are enabled. Official source 1 ↗

Free access & limits

The Free plan has no time limit but caps usage at 100 conversations a month on one site with one agent and 30 days of history. Official source 1 ↗

Best for & limitations

Support: answer routine questions from pasted knowledge and hand the rest to a person. Official source 1 ↗

Order lookups: a custom HTTP tool calls your own order API so the agent can report a delivery date. Official source 1 ↗

Lead generation: collect name and email inside the conversation and push leads to a CRM through webhooks. Official source 1 ↗

  • Text web chat only. No voice, and replies arrive whole rather than streamed token by token. Email is outbound only; there is no inbound email, WhatsApp or Slack channel. Official source 1 ↗
  • No website crawler or file ingestion. Knowledge must be pasted in by hand; there is no website crawler, file ingestion or embeddings search. Official source 1 ↗
  • No native CRM connectors or SSO. Webhooks and custom tools stand in for native CRM connectors, a prompt and rules for a flow builder, and email sign-in for SSO. Official source 1 ↗
  • Unincorporated sole operator. The privacy policy says SiteTrellis is run by its founder as a business that is not yet incorporated or registered as a company. Official source 1 ↗
