The best AI music generators

Seven AI music generators compared on full songs versus background tracks, editing control, commercial licences and what the free plans allow.

AI music generators do two quite different jobs. Some write complete songs with vocals from a prompt or your lyrics, for people who want to make and share music. Others produce instrumental background tracks for videos, podcasts, games and apps, where the questions are length, licence and how well the music fits the picture.

The tools below cover both jobs, plus music production inside a DAW and AI voice covers. The biggest practical difference between them is often the licence rather than the sound: whether free output can be used commercially, whether you can monetize a channel, and whether you may release a track on streaming services.

How we chose

  • What it generatesFull songs with vocals, instrumental background tracks, music timed to a video, or new vocals in another voice.
  • Control after the first generationWhether you can extend, edit sections, change stems, set an exact length, or export stems and WAV files to finish elsewhere.
  • Licence and release rightsWhich plan grants commercial use, whether monetized videos are covered, and whether tracks may be distributed to streaming services.
  • What the free plan really allowsDaily or monthly limits, export quality, attribution requirements and whether free output is personal use only.
  • Basis of judgementThese comparisons come from each vendor's official pricing pages, help centres and licence terms, checked on the dates shown. We did not run the same prompts through every tool.

The 7 picks

01

Best for complete songs with vocals

Suno

Generate songs from prompts or lyrics, then remix and edit them with AI music tools.

Pricing
Free provides 50 credits per day. The annual-billing view lists Pro at US$8/month and Premier at US$24/month; their monthly credit allowances are 2,500 and 10,000 respectively.
Available on
Available on the web, iPhone and Android; Suno Studio is a browser-based workstation.
Category
Music & Audio

Suno turns a genre, mood, theme or your lyrics into a full track with vocals and instruments, and Remix can change a song's style or lyrics or rebuild it around your own recording. On eligible paid plans it can sing in a voice you record.

It goes further than most song generators once a track exists. Paid plans split songs into time-aligned stems for another audio workstation, and Premier adds Suno Studio, a browser workstation with MIDI, effects and automation. The free plan gives 50 credits a day but no commercial rights, downloads allowance or stems.

Choose it if
Songwriters and hobbyists who want a finished song with vocals from a description or their own lyrics, and a path to keep working on it.
Look elsewhere if
You need commercial rights without paying, or many downloads a month on the cheaper plan.
02

Best for steering a song with reference tracks

Udio

AI music generator that writes full songs from a prompt, lyrics or a reference track.

Pricing
A free plan gives 10 credits a day and 100 a month. Standard costs $10 a month ($8 billed annually) for 2,400 credits, and Pro costs $30 ($24 annually) for 6,000 credits. Extra credits can be bought from $3 per 100.
Available on
Udio runs on the web and has an iOS app; Style blending and the Style Library are desktop-only.
Category
Music & Audio

Udio writes songs from a description, lyrics or a reference clip. You can use one or two references as the style, set how strongly they apply and blend them, then extend, remix, inpaint or edit the result. Each prompt returns two songs, and trimming costs no credits.

The free plan allows three full-length songs a day. Style blending and the Style Library are desktop-only, songs made from uploaded audio cannot be published on udio.com, and our profile does not establish stem export or summarise its commercial licence.

Choose it if
Musicians who would rather point at a sound than describe it, using one or two reference tracks and a slider to blend them.
Look elsewhere if
You want to publish songs built from uploaded audio on Udio itself, or need confirmed stem export.
03

Best for royalty-free tracks you can release

SOUNDRAW

AI music generator for royalty-free tracks, with bar-level editing, genre blending and stem downloads.

Pricing
Paid subscriptions start with the Creator plan (unlimited MP3 downloads) and three Artist tiers that add song distribution with 10, 20 or unlimited monthly downloads. Enterprise is quoted on request, and separate API plans start at $29.99 per month.
Available on
SOUNDRAW runs as a web app with a browser-based mixer; its structured product data also lists iOS and macOS.
Category
Music & Audio

SOUNDRAW builds tracks from genre and mood choices and says its model is trained only on music made by its own producers. A browser mixer toggles instruments, adjusts intensity and sets length, and you can blend genres such as hip-hop with orchestra.

Its licence is the reason to choose it. Tracks made while subscribed stay licensed after you cancel, and the Artist tiers add song distribution and let you keep 100% of streaming royalties. Creator and Artist Starter download MP3 only; WAV and stems start at Artist Pro. Our profile does not establish a free plan.

Choose it if
Video creators who want unlimited royalty-free background music, and artists who want beats they can release on streaming services.
Look elsewhere if
You want vocals written for you, or WAV files and stems on the cheapest plans.
04

Best for long background music and loops

Mubert

AI music generator for royalty-free soundtracks from text, images or moods, with stem remixing, a track editor and a music API for developers.

Pricing
Mubert Render has a free Ambassador plan for personal, non-commercial use and three paid plans: Creator at $14 a month, Pro at $39 and Business at $199, each cheaper per month when billed annually. Mubert API has self-serve monthly plans (Build, Startup and Startup+) shown at sale prices of $49, $199 and $499 against regular prices of $99, $249 and $999, plus a custom plan on request.
Available on
Mubert Render runs in the browser. Mubert API is a JSON REST API over HTTPS with a separate streaming endpoint, and an MCP server gives AI agents in Claude, Cursor or other MCP clients access to the same functions. Mubert Play is a listening app for iOS and Android.
Category
Music & Audio

Mubert generates from a text prompt, an image or mood, genre and BPM settings, and offers full tracks up to 25 minutes on paid plans, jingles, seamless loops and DJ-style mixes. You can regenerate or drop the drums, bass, lead or FX of a track, and Pro adds a section-by-section Track Editor.

Licences are tiered precisely. The free Ambassador plan is personal use with credit to Mubert, Creator covers non-monetized content, and commercial use or monetization needs Pro or Business. Mubert keeps the copyright, so tracks cannot be sold, distributed to streaming services or registered in Content ID.

Choose it if
YouTubers and podcasters who need background music of a set length, seamless loops or long DJ-style mixes, with a licence certificate for copyright claims.
Look elsewhere if
You want to sell tracks or put them on streaming services, or you need stems as separate files.
05

Best for scoring a video to picture

Sonilo

AI music and sound effects generated from a video or a text prompt and timed to the footage, with video translation and dubbing, a web app and a developer API.

Pricing
The web app has a Free plan with 2,000 credits every two weeks, Pro at $14.99 a month or $143.88 a year, Premium at $29.99 a month or $287.88 a year, and custom Enterprise pricing. Credits are billed by output length. The API is separate: 12 free trial calls, then pay-as-you-go per second of output from a prepaid balance.
Available on
Sonilo runs in the browser, as plugins for Adobe Premiere Pro, Unity, Godot, Epic Games Fab, Roblox Studio and Defold, and through an HTTPS API with official TypeScript and Python SDKs and a sonilo command-line tool.
Category
Music & Audio

Sonilo watches an uploaded clip and scores it with music and sound effects that follow its timing and on-screen action, or generates either from a text prompt. You can give each section of a video its own direction, and it can mix a music bed under narration. Plugins bring it into Premiere Pro, Unity, Godot and Roblox Studio.

Free credits renew every two weeks but export at preview quality for non-commercial use. Pro adds a general commercial licence, and film, TV and broadcast need Premium. It also translates and re-voices a video's speech, which no other pick here does.

Choose it if
Video editors and game developers who want music and sound effects generated from the footage itself, timed to its length and sections.
Look elsewhere if
You want songs with vocals, or free output you can use commercially.
06

Best for producers working in a DAW

Stable Audio

Stability AI's music and sound-effect generator for the browser, your DAW and your own apps.

Pricing
Four monthly plans: Solo $12 (660 credits), Session $30 (1,800), Producer $90 (6,000) and Studio $199 (14,000). Each includes the web app and the DAW plugin; enterprises can license the models for their own infrastructure.
Available on
Web app, a plugin for major DAWs such as Ableton, Logic and Pro Tools, and an API platform.
Category
Music & Audio

Stable Audio is Stability AI's music and sound generator, available as a web app, a plugin for major DAWs and an API. It generates anything from short loops to six-minute pieces at a set duration, can make variations from your own material, and replaces individual sections instead of regenerating the whole track.

Every plan includes both the web app and the DAW plugin, starting with Solo at $12 a month. Stem export is marked experimental, credits do not roll over, and our profile does not establish a free plan.

Choose it if
Producers and sound designers who want generated loops, cues and song starters inside Ableton, Logic or Pro Tools.
Look elsewhere if
You want a free plan, or finished songs with vocals.
07

Best for AI voice covers and your own voice model

Musicfy

AI voice song generator for making covers in other voices, training a clone of your own voice, and generating music from text prompts.

Pricing
Musicfy has three paid plans with monthly and yearly billing. At regular annual list prices, Starter is $190 a year, Professional $590 a year and Studio $1,200 a year. The plans differ in custom voice slots (2, 6 or 30), monthly song limits and upload size, and only Professional and Studio include a commercial license. The pricing page shows no free plan. The API is billed separately at $0.07 per minute of generated audio.
Available on
Musicfy runs in the web browser, and developers can use a public HTTPS API that returns JSON. The checked pages do not mention desktop or mobile apps.
Category
Music & Audio

Musicfy is built around voices. You sing a part and convert it into a voice from its library of royalty-free and parody voices, or upload your own vocals to train a custom model; plans include 2, 6 or 30 custom voices. It can also turn a vocal into an instrument and generate music from a text prompt.

The pricing page shows no free plan. The commercial licence is listed only on Professional and Studio, not Starter, every plan caps songs per month, and the stem splitter is listed as coming soon.

Choose it if
Singers and producers who want to turn a recorded vocal into another voice, or train a model of their own voice to use and share.
Look elsewhere if
You want to start free, or need a commercial licence on the entry plan.

Our take

To make songs, start with Suno or Udio. Both have free plans that renew daily, so you can compare them on the same idea before paying. Choose Suno if you want stems and a studio afterwards, and Udio if reference tracks describe your sound better than words.

For background music, decide on the licence first. SOUNDRAW suits creators who also want to release music, Mubert suits long or looping content you will not sell, and Sonilo suits footage that needs scoring to picture. Whatever you pick, read the plan's licence before you monetize a video or distribute a track.

Questions people ask

Which AI music generators have a free plan?

Suno gives 50 credits a day and Udio 10 credits a day, up to three full-length songs. Mubert's free plan allows 25 generations and 5 downloads a month with credit to Mubert, and Sonilo gives 2,000 credits every two weeks at preview quality. Free output from Suno, Mubert and Sonilo is not licensed for commercial use. Musicfy's pricing page shows no free plan, and our profiles do not establish one for SOUNDRAW or Stable Audio.

Can I use AI-generated music in monetized YouTube videos?

On the right plan, usually yes. Suno includes commercial rights on Pro and Premier, SOUNDRAW's subscriptions cover commercial and background-music use, Mubert needs Pro or Business for monetization, Sonilo needs Pro, and Musicfy needs Professional or Studio. Read each tool's current terms before relying on them.

Can I release AI-generated songs on Spotify?

SOUNDRAW's Artist plans are built for it: they add distribution and let you keep 100% of streaming royalties. Mubert explicitly does not allow its tracks on streaming services. For other tools, check the licence terms; our profiles do not confirm distribution rights for them.

Which tools let me export stems?

Suno separates songs into stems on paid plans, SOUNDRAW provides stems and WAV from Artist Pro, and Stable Audio exports stems as an experimental feature. Mubert lets you change stems inside its editor but not export them, and Musicfy lists its stem splitter as coming soon.

Did you test these tools hands-on?

No. This guide is based on each vendor's official pages, pricing and licence terms, checked on the dates shown on each tool's profile. We will note any hands-on testing if we add it.
