1Password for Agents: which AI agents it works with, cost and setup
1Password for Agents lets AI agents like Muse and Grok Bot sign in for you without seeing your password. Which agents work today, which are coming, what it costs and how approval works.
1Password for Agents lets a personal AI agent sign in to your accounts without ever seeing your password. When the agent reaches a login page, it asks 1Password for the credential, you approve the request on your own device, and 1Password fills the password or one-time code straight into the page. 1Password announced it on 22 October 2026. It costs nothing extra on 1Password Individual and Families plans, but only two agents, Meta's Muse and Grok Bot, are rolling out so far. Claude Duet, ChatGPT Work and dots are listed as coming soon.
Which AI agents work with 1Password for Agents?
Status as listed by 1Password on 23 October 2026:
Rolling out now (over the coming days, on all platforms):
Coming soon:
- Claude Duet from Anthropic
- ChatGPT Work and dots from OpenAI
- Townie from Town, on web and iOS
- Instinct, Browserbase, Browser Use, Dana, KERNEL, Perplexity, Ramp, Tomo and Wajo
1Password has not given dates for the "coming soon" integrations. Anthropic's statement in the launch announcement says Claude Duet already asks before it signs in anywhere and that "soon 1Password will complete the sign-in". If your agent isn't listed, 1Password has a waitlist on its 1Password for Agents page that notifies you when it is supported.
How it works
- The agent asks. At a sign-in page, the agent requests the login for that account. It identifies itself to 1Password with its own digital key.
- You decide. 1Password shows which login is being requested and why, and you approve or deny it on your own device. If several saved logins match the site, you pick which one is used.
- 1Password signs in. It fills the password or one-time code into the sign-in form. The agent is only told that access was granted, then carries on with the task.
What the agent can and can't see:
- It never receives your password or one-time code, and you never paste them into a chat.
- Connecting an agent doesn't open your whole vault to it. It asks for one login at a time, for the task in hand.
- Once it is signed in, it can see and do whatever that account allows. 1Password says to review the task and the account before you approve.
- You can disconnect an agent from 1Password at any time.
- How often you're asked to approve varies by agent. 1Password says the safeguards differ between integrations.
1Password calls the browser part of this Agentic Autofill: when you approve a request, it fills the login into the page the agent has open.
What does it cost, and who can use it?
1Password for Agents is included at no extra cost in 1Password Individual and Families plans. When we checked, the listed prices billed yearly were $3.99 a month for Individual (one person) and $5.99 a month for Families (five people), with a 25% first-year discount for new customers and a 14-day free trial.
Limits to know about:
- Only accounts on 1password.com. Accounts hosted on 1Password.eu or 1Password.ca aren't supported yet.
- Personal plans first. 1Password describes the new agent integrations as introduced for Individual and Families accounts. It doesn't say when business accounts will get them.
- Details vary by agent. Which platforms work and what you need to set up depend on the agent, your region, your device and how you sign in.
You also need the agent itself. Muse and Grok Bot have their own plans; see Muse and Grok Bot for those.
Why not just give the agent your password?
You can type a password into an agent's chat, but then the agent holds your password, and 1Password points out that it may keep access to it beyond the task at hand. Passwords saved in your browser or kept in notes don't help either: 1Password says agents can't use them, so the agent stops at every login and waits for you to sign in by hand.
With 1Password for Agents the password stays in your vault. You approve each login, and when you change a password you update it in one place and every connected agent uses the new one.
1Password for Agents vs 1Password for Claude
These are two different products:
- 1Password for Claude launched on 16 July 2026. It lets Claude in Chrome use logins from your vault on Mac. You approve each request with a biometric prompt, and the credential is injected into the page without reaching the model. It came with Agentic Mode in the 1Password browser extension, which locks the extension down whenever a compatible AI agent takes control of the browser.
- 1Password for Agents is the platform 1Password announced in October 2026. It extends the same approve-and-autofill approach to personal agents from several companies, starting with Muse and Grok Bot.
For coding agents and scripts, 1Password points developers to its separate tools for builders, such as the 1Password MCP Server, service accounts and SDKs.
FAQ
Is 1Password for Agents free?
It costs nothing on top of a 1Password Individual or Families subscription. You still need one of those plans, and accounts on 1Password.eu or 1Password.ca can't use it yet.
Does it work with ChatGPT or Claude?
Not through 1Password for Agents yet. OpenAI's ChatGPT Work and dots and Anthropic's Claude Duet are listed as coming soon. The older 1Password for Claude integration works with Claude in Chrome on Mac.
Can the agent see my passwords?
No. 1Password fills the login into the page, and the agent only learns that access was granted. After it signs in, though, it can use the account, so only approve logins for tasks you trust it with.
Can an agent read everything in my vault?
No. It asks for one login at a time, and you approve or deny each request. The rest of your vault stays encrypted.
How do I get it?
Use a 1Password Individual or Families account on 1password.com, then connect a supported agent from inside that agent's app. If your agent isn't supported yet, join the waitlist on 1Password's site.
