What it does

Chopstick is a macOS app by independent developer Joshua Knauber that adds widgets to the area around the Mac notch. It keeps a local log of how you use your Mac, such as active time, focus and app switches, and you can start with ready-made widgets or describe a new one. The coding agent you already use, such as Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI, then writes the widget for you.

Features

  • Widgets built by your agent. Describe the widget you want and Chopstick hands the job to a coding agent you already have: Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Copilot or OpenCode. There is no separate AI subscription. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Ready-made widgets. You can start with widgets the developer has already made before writing your own. Official source 1 ↗
  • Local activity log. Chopstick records what you repeat on your Mac, such as active time, longest focus and app switches, in a local database. Your agent can look through it for widget ideas. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Optional permissions. It needs no permissions to start. Accessibility, Input Monitoring, Automation and Screen Recording each let it see more, and it keeps working if you leave them off. Official source 1 ↗

  • Needs your own coding agent. Custom widgets are written by a coding agent you already use and pay for; Chopstick does not include an AI model of its own. Official source 1 ↗
  • Activity goes to your agent. The activity log stays on your Mac, but whatever your agent reads from it for widget ideas goes to that agent's provider under its own privacy policy. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Mac only. It runs only on macOS 15 and later. Official source 1 ↗
