What it does

Google Playground is an experimental AI game-creation platform for adults in the United States. Describe an idea, refine the gameplay through chat, and play or share the resulting browser game. Creators can use image references and export the generated source code.

Features

  • Generate games from prompts. Start with a plain-text idea, a starter prompt or guided help, then test the game in the browser. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Refine gameplay through chat. Edit a draft or published game by describing changes to its logic, graphics and rules. Changes stay private until you publish again, while the current published version remains playable. Official source 1 ↗
  • Turn reference images into assets. Upload PNG or JPG reference photos to influence themes, backgrounds and character sprites. AI transforms the references into stylized game assets. Official source 1 ↗
  • Choose private, link-only or public sharing. Keep a game private, share it as Unlisted through a direct link, or publish a Listed game for public discovery. New creations begin as private drafts. Official source 1 ↗
  • Export source code and generated assets. Download a ZIP containing the complete HTML, JavaScript, CSS and generated assets from the Creation Studio export control. Official source 1 ↗
  • Create multiplayer games. Select multiplayer before generation to create turn-based or real-time games. Multiplayer remains an early-preview feature. Official source 1 ↗
  • Compete on eligible leaderboards. Publicly listed single-player games can have global leaderboards and invite-only group leaderboards for up to 100 members. Official source 1 ↗
  • Manage activity and account data. Delete gameplay history through My Activity or delete the Playground account, created games and associated data in Profile Settings. Limited records may be retained where required by law. Official source 1 ↗

  • Unity Spark is announced, not generally available. Google describes the Unity Spark integration as upcoming. At launch it was still in testing, with a closed beta coming soon. Official source 1 ↗
  • Generation speed varies. Processing can slow down or fail because of peak usage, traffic or prompt complexity. Google recommends clear, focused editing requests. Official source 1 ↗
