What it does

Lloyal lets developers build AI apps with the model running inside the app itself, in the same process as their TypeScript code, on a laptop, an office appliance or a GPU box.

Features

  • One-command scaffold. npx lloyal-ai new creates an app with a desktop window, browser app and terminal over a model that is downloaded and verified on first run, starting from a basic or a deep-research template. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Local model you choose. Qwen3.5 4B is the recommended default, or you point the app at a .gguf model you already have. Official source 1 ↗
  • Agents over one model. Agents are branches of the model's live state, each with a task and budget, run together in a pool over one resident model. Official source 1 ↗
  • Abilities. Add-on extensions that can read an agent's live inference state, fork it and spawn agents that inherit it; a signed Wikipedia Ability is installed with new projects. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Serve to many users. A host loads the model once and gives each browser its own session, context and agents, with no per-token bill. Official source 1 ↗

Best for & limitations

Building a private research or document assistant that runs on a user's own machine and can be sold as a downloadable app at any price. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗

Running one model on an office box or GPU server for a team, each person with their own browser session. Official source 1 ↗

  • Heavy local requirements. Needs Node.js 24+, about 10 GB of memory and several GB of disk for the model, and it is a developer tool driven from the terminal. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Mac-only packaging, no built-in auth. lloyal ship builds only a macOS disk image, which needs a Developer ID to open on other Macs, and the multi-user host has no authentication of its own. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Mobile runtime not public. The native iOS and Android runtime is in commercial preview behind a request form. Official source 1 ↗
