What it does

AskMed is an AI medical reference for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical students and researchers. You ask a clinical question; AskMed searches a fixed list of medical journals, guidelines, drug labels and references, and an AI model writes an answer with a numbered citation after every claim. If no usable medical source is found it shows a fixed reply instead of answering from memory. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web. The terms name Quan Quach, trading as AskMed, as the operator; the About page says it is made by Loop Studio.

Features

  • Cited answers. Every factual sentence in an answer carries a numbered link to its source, and the reference list tags each source as a Guideline, Research, Drug label or Reference. Tapping a source shows the passage AskMed relied on. Answers draw on 8 sources by default, adjustable from 3 to 12. Official source 1 ↗
  • Fixed medical source list. Searches run only on a fixed list of medical sites: journals and databases such as PubMed, Cochrane, NEJM, The Lancet, JAMA and The BMJ; guideline bodies such as NICE, WHO, CDC, ESC and KDIGO; FDA and DailyMed drug labels; and references such as StatPearls and the MSD Manual. Guidelines and agencies rank first, then systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Official source 1 ↗
  • Research Mode. A second mode for evidence questions, such as whether a treatment works or how two approaches compare. It reads the full text of the single most relevant result and summarises key trials, meta-analyses and guideline positions, noting where evidence is weak or conflicting. Official source 1 ↗
  • Source and study-type filters. Choose how many sources to cite and which kinds: journals, guidelines, drug labels, references or study types. For example, keep only Meta-analysis to see what systematic reviews concluded. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Non-US guidelines. Covers NICE, ESC, WHO and other non-US guidance and local brand names from national drug registries, and works worldwide with no US license or NPI number. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Attachments read on your device. Attach a lab report, discharge summary, PDF, photo of text or a pasted note. The text is extracted on your device and only that text is sent with the question; the files are not uploaded. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Deep Dive and Exam Prep (Max). The Max plan adds Deep Dive, full evidence reports with 20+ sources, and Exam Prep practice for exams including PLAB, USMLE, PLE, EDN, UKOMNAS, NEET-PG, ENARM, TUS, Ghana MDC and Israel MLE. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Follow-ups, history and medical calculators. Ask follow-up questions without repeating context or tap one of three suggested follow-ups, keep answers in History and Saved, use Private Mode, and use clinical score and lab calculators on getaskmed.com that link to their original papers. Apps are in seven languages. Official source 1 ↗

Best for & limitations

A resident on a night shift checks a management pathway and opens the guideline behind the step they are unsure of. Official source 1 ↗

A pharmacist reviews a drug's interactions, contraindications and monitoring, each tied to a label or reference. Official source 1 ↗

A physician preparing for journal club gets the landmark trials and meta-analyses on a topic in one cited list. Official source 1 ↗

A medical student pastes a practice question, sees why each wrong option is wrong and follows the citations. Official source 1 ↗

  • Not medical advice; AI answers are not reviewed. Answers are written by an AI model and no person reviews them before you see them, so they can misread a source or leave something out. AskMed is for education and reference, not diagnosis, emergencies or patient self-diagnosis. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • No drug doses. AskMed never states drug doses, dose calculations or schedules, even when a trial reports them; dosing must come from the current prescribing information. Official source 1 ↗ · Official source 2 ↗
  • Fast summary, not a systematic review. Research Mode runs one search and reads only one source in full, covers only its fixed site list, and does not grade evidence with a formal tool such as GRADE. Official source 1 ↗
  • Device limit. One account can be signed in on at most one computer, one phone and one tablet at the same time. Official source 1 ↗
  • Private Mode still stores questions; Meta ad tracking. Questions asked in Private Mode are still recorded on AskMed's servers. The website uses the Meta Pixel and sends trial and subscription events to Meta, though questions and answers are not sent to Meta. Official source 1 ↗
